Paint flaked off due to presence of ferrous oxide (posh rust).
I for one am confident that Dogsbollox will rectify this serious fault and will self flagilate as pennance for his sin (if it was me I'd blame Bedlow cos he's in Spain).

Ah once you have the rust gremlins there they will spread to the rest of the bike and slowly eat away at it until one day it disappears up it's own exhaust pipe. You may as well scrap it now - you have been warned!

Quite right Rich - I had a Lancia Fulvia that did exactly that in a matter of minutes. I was lucky to get out alive.
Dogs - Straight to the crusher with it - and no passing 'Go' nievah.

With the much appreciated help of Steve Thomas this afternoon we lowered the whole lot onto a small engine lift in readiness for the final assembly.

I am curious that you have chosen to completely assmble the engine unit before putting it in the frame. I was going to build the rolling chassis, then fit the engine with minimum assembly into the frame, so that it is at it's lightest and smallest giving me the least likelihood of chipping the powder coating. This is the first time I have assembled like this but traditionally one fits to a rolling chassis. As everything on the zed engine can be fitted in the frame, save the gearbox split, I thought this was the best bet. I still haven't got any barrels either which helped the decision for the top end.
I should be interested in opinions on this.

Looking fab! Mine will never be that good!

Ralph,
I used to build the rolling chassis first but having seen how Marsden does his I thought I'd give it a go and it is really much easier so long as you've got a few mates to help do some lifting. Oh, you do need two people to carefully position the frame over the engine.

the last one I did was using the 'frame over engine' method - I thought it was much easier.

Always put the frame over the engine on the Harris - it's a total bitch otherwise, just tape newspaper around the tubes to stop the scratches.

Recently did mine by dropping frame over the assembled motor, much easier and less risk of damage (I did cover frame rails with tape as a precaution). Assembling the motor on the bench is so much easier than fighting with the barrels and head when in the frame.

When i rebuilt the Z1-R it was frame over engine.
Prior to that the headstock bearings and centre stand were fitted.
Just asked the neighbour to help get the bike elevated on the C.stand and slip axle stands under the cradle so i could fit front end etc :lon
