Just fitting a dyntek sys, dyna s with coils to my z1b, the plug leads have an unusual core, almost like strips of thin whit thread - I cant get a resistance check on the lead - any advice on these leads ?

I have just open a brand new pack of DW 600 silicon leads and the resistance reading between the 2 ends before being cut is 15.8 K ohms.
I assume you have followed the instructions and turned the inner silicon core back onto the outer rubber sheath and then applied the crimp collar before securing with a crimping tool or pliers.

I take it the inner silicon core is the white threads ? - are those the conductors ?
stupid Q ? can you use std leads with these coils ?

The silicon core leads are the prefered choice when you using with a Dyna S system as you will not get the "noise" as with copper cored leads.
What part number is showing on the leads set?
I have fitted a set of these to my Z1B without a problem.

its a DC1-1

If fitted the dyna leads but Ive used my own plug caps as I dont like the look of the dyna ones (sad) , I got my meter to read for a few secs so they are conducting ok, the points sys fits up easy enough , but the coils are way bigger so I need to get some longer mount bolts. Ive always felt the replica back plate set and general spark was the weak point of the running

I don't know if the "screw on" original plug caps are going to be compatible with the silicon core it may give you a point of high resistance but only a trial run will tell as I said the originals read 15.8K ohms for the full length lead.

I get 12-13 Kohms with the 400mm lentgh and an ngk sscrew cap, the cap basicaly adds 6kohms, when I take it off its down to around 8k

Do you think this maybe to high ?
my option is to run copper or s/s core HT, Im not bothered about the suppression unless it affects the sender unit ??

Regardless of looks why don't you run the system on the dyna plug caps and see how it performs then run the system on your original units to see if there is a performance difference.

yep , your right ....Ive already gut off the dyna leads caps.. horrid screw on tops to the plugs as well
so I will try a set as they are now to see if it gets a better spark - it was pretty piss poor sparks when compared to medern systems. I will update the thread , it would have been tonight but Im still at work

Put the std leads on , coil for 2/3 working fine, coil for 1/4 heating up core iron and not working, swapping sender wires same result , coil on 2/3 ok , 1/4 is heating up with ignition on and no spark
any ideas ?

powder coating was the problem, I handnt reved enough of it to get a good earth with the new mounting spacers - bad earth !


now running, difference is incredible
