Ive got a 1980 z 650 , after sorting out nearly the whole electrical sytem ive now notice that there is no brake light switch for the handlebars from the brake lever ? Not even a trace of where any switch should go ? Did this model come without a front actuated switch ? Im quite sure its the standard lever and resevoir set up.
Cheers.

you can use it withought a brake light switch as long as the back one works. Cant remember what year the law changed but you only need one brake lever to work the brake light (does'nt matter if its the front lever or the rear foot pedal). my z1a passed lat week with just the front working, still waiting for a rear switch.

The switch works on hydraulic pressure within the brake system, the wiring for it breaks out of the main loom within the headlight shell, should be a pair of wires together just ready with push on connectors(female bullets).

Cheers steve ill have a look and see if i can get it wired up and working .....more wiring

Does the 650 have an outage switch? if so this could be problem as brake lights and outage indicator go through this unit it is switched by front or back brake switch i modified my mates a4 with a standard 12v relay, genuine outage switches seem as rare as hens teeth and are not cheap if you can find one that actually works,,,,Cheers Paul J..
