The clutch on my A2 that is, always been like it, new cable oiled, adjusted as per the manual, release mechanism greased and its still stiff, you need body builders arms to pull it in

Have you checked your push rod Mikey? It could be bent or seized.
Simple to do, take of sprocket cover/casing. It should then slide out freely, if it doesn't, then that could be your problem. I believe they can get bent from chains breaking! There should be a ball bearing at the far end of the push rod, watch it dosen't come out if you have the bike on the side stand!

Mikey, poor routing of the cable won't help either.
Four pipes rule, anything else is second best.
A quick word to correct part of Ginger's comment.
The ball, which activates the clutch, cannot fall out from the LHS of the machine. It is a common misconception. It can only be removed by removal of the mushroom and falls out the RHS. The diameter of the ball restricts it from rolling out the other direction. RegardZ.
