Kwakanut wrote:Pasc, here is the response I got from the machinist....

"I retained the original shock tabs and left them in the original position. I ran a die over them to clean them up and to run the threads to the shoulder. then machined appropiate spacers, then machined special long sleeve shock nuts that fit inside the upper shock sleeve and to the appropiate length so that the shock stays put while allowing upper eye body clearence, the steel shock sleeve is slightly wider than the rubber bushing and shockbody eylet allowing movement
with out binding.......will send pic of what the shock nuts look like, you can see how I taper bored the outside of shock nut to the stud area so that there are no un sightly threads showing, the threads do go the width of the shock sleeve ......"

If you look at the 2nd to last pic in my last post with pics you can see what he's talking about with the threaded nut.

kwakanut, thanks for that matey. Really like the method as otherwise I was going to have to send my frame out for modified shock mounts. If you do get a chance to post any pics of the top mount components I'd appreciate it but if it's hassle then don't worry. I think I understand what your engineer is saying.
Thanks again,
Pasc.

A little more done. The rear end was sitting up too high so we relocated the bottom shock mounts. You can also see the stripped tail and tank, and the wheel sort of shows up in the crappy light. Project has slowed a tad because I need to buy a few things and don't have any $$ right now.

Hey all! I've been absent for a while due to the economic woes taking up all of my time. A little more progress, but not a lot.

A mount for the steering damper, rear caliper hanger, and some rear sets from an 01 GSXR750.

Almost forgot...the rear master cylinder is from an R1. Also, I've replaced the filler in the gas tank with a ZRX filler so I can use a spiffy Harris gas cap I have.

Those of you with eagle eyes may notice that the filler neck in the tank has 7 mounting blot holes while the cap only has 5. The 5 hole cap is one I have for a 1200 tank, the 1100 tank takes the 7. I just don't have a pic of the 7 holer.

Right now we're working on gauge mounting and some other odds and ends like that. Soon it'll be time to dip into the motor a bit.

Watching this one with interest!...

Given the quality of the machined parts such as yokes and damper brackets, I'm wondering why you've not gone for bespoke rearsets too, rather than using standard Gixer pegs & levers?

Its been a few months and I can start to see how this mean machine is going to look. How about an update with some pictures?! Also what do you plan on doing with the paint scheme?

Keep up the good stuff

I'm BACK!!!!!! Boy 09s been a pisser. Updates to project:

I've been spending quality time trying to iron out the turbo system. Turns out the head pipe is complete shit so it needs to be replaced. Brand new they're $600US :o Tracking a nice one on fleabay right now, but it's like the third one in three months and GD they go for money. If it gets too high I'll just cough up for a new one.

Other issues are fitting the Garrett T3 where there once was a Rajay F40. I either need a different plenum or need to fab up a new flange on the existing plenum. With a different head pipe I'll need to fab up the other pipes and fit the wastegate and set up the oiling and and and....so that's the motor side.

The chassis is closing in on ready to go. We worked out how to mount all the electrics and fabbed up a new aluminum battery box. Also, the painting is done, though I only have a pic of it midway through. More later.

A couple pics of the battery box:

and the paint scheme (please note that I will not be using the seat as it sits :green ):

Not sure which bike you're referring to, the one in the background of the side view or the one in background of the long view. In the long view, that's my 99 ZRX. The other one on a bench is an S1 rep with mucho trick pieces parts. I'll get some pics as soon as I can.
