Duh
You use the bags to make your boots slide easily through the wets with out snagging, you then take 'em off
It's the forcing the boots through the legs that often damages the seams and makes you fall over dancing on one leg

Got a bit more removed from the motor tonight.
Gearbox output shaft is, well, shafted..
Looks like someone forced the wrong nut on and ripped the threads off
Looks like a VW / Peugeot front hub nut???
The back of the clutch basket was rubbing on the secondary shaft bearing retainer for some reason....
Looks to me like the bearing might not have been seated properly?
Onwards and upwards

Fuck my old boot ... I don't think I have ever seen so much wanton vandalism perpetrated on an engine in all my born days
I thought the cam chain trick was one of the most horrendous acts of spanner aided barbarism I'd seen, but it looks as though some ape has actually taken the end off the final drive shaft. Surely this has to be a wind up
Have a look around your workshop; there must be a TV crew hiding in the shadows.
Surely they'll come out soon with your real, unmolested engine soon
If this is for real, then I wonder if Watchdog or any similar consumer progs would be interested. If not how about that prog where they expose dodgy builders and plumbers. I think the business may be a tad iffy - Mikey was telling me tonight that the geezer that bought his ZZR took it there for an MOT. Failed on the pack pads and wheel bearing. Mikey took a look and there was nothing wrong with the wheel bearing. Put new pads in and took it back, told the bloke he'd changed the bearings. The guy gave it a tug and agreed it was now fine - do we think he might have thought he was getting the work of putting right the bearings? I always make a point of telling MOT testers that I'll be sorting any failures. I've been shagged over by car garages before - bastards don't bite my arse twice.
If this business is as shady as it's starting to sound, I think that threatening the knob end with VOSA (Vehicle and Operators Service Agency) might tune his train of thought. They are based around the corner from my old business premises and I used to do some work for them years ago when they were known as the Vehicle Inspectorate. He will make an absolute mint from doing MOTs and even an accusation of impropriety would cause him loads of pain and grief. If you can gather as much evidence as possible before Sunday, I think we should be able to get some form of result. If we take the evidence so far gathered to VOSA, the best he could hope for is to have a serious investigation ... I somehow suspect that's not going to be very appealing to him, so doing the decent thing might be a good idea.

In Germany, if you want to be a self employed plumber or whatever you have to gain qualifications to prove your competence. I have always disliked legislation and rules, but cases like this, where lives are being put at risk, it makes one question whether it might have some merit. If CB had just passed her test and bought that bike, and being unaware of the fact that rattles are a bad thing in a bike engine, she could have the engine seize solid at an inopportune moment, perhaps on a wet road and lose her life. - Might seem a bit far fetched, but only a short while ago a load of us witnessed the sound of a guy losing his life when he gave his bike a big handful outside squires in front of his mates - who'd have thought you'd lose your life in first gear?

Crikey Mr Buckle, what a bunch of %#@!!x$'s
I do feel bad about that engine now
When I bought the bike it was running OK (if a tad tinkally) and same as you, bought the bike as a nice 'project' as the majority of the bike was quite sound.
I thought the primary chain was suss... not this much chaos
Shame I only had a spare bottom half engine to give you
See you Sunday, for a retribution plan.......
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
It's a risk you take buying anything 30 years old I guess. I must admit I wasn't expecting quite what I found though
I'm just glad I can do the majority of the work myself.
As it's now a long term project I am thinking the 650 should be reborn as a fire breathing monster. I see APE, Orient Express, Camotion, Yoshimura........
