The pictures are coming
Its my own blast cabinet, cheap China product, costs 100 Pund or something like that her in Norway.
But it does the job, its really nice to have that cabinet, makes everything more easy.
Oki, today I will show you guys what paint I prefer for the engine, and also every part of the bike except the frame.
We are talking about oven baked paint, named
Gun-Kote
This paint is new for me, but what I have seen makes me very sure about quality and durability.
Basic line is to sandblast the part, degrees it (this is very important to do proper), if its a solid steel/iron part, not some cast product you spray on a product called K-Phos to prevent rust and then preheat on 50 degrees C. until the whole part reach that temperature.
Then spray the part with the chosen colour with a cheap airbrush, I use a little cheap oil free air compressor.
When you are satisfied with the paint coating then put it back in the oven, but on 163 degrees C. for one hour, bake time starts when the part reach that temperature.
When the part is finished the only thing that can remove it is blasting or grinding. No chemicals whatsoever can remove it.
And it will manage temperatures over 260 degrees C full time.
"Minimum initial oxidation temperature 460 Degrees C
Thermal breakaway @ 500 degrees C Minimum"
Used on an air cooled engine you also have up to 8-10% better cooling because the paint dissipates the heat better.
Its also very thin, thickness is typical .0004 of an inch, so its no problem with threads and close tolerance fits.
Over to the fun part, pictures
Here is the K-Phos.
The paint.
A cheap little laser temperature probe to find the exact temperature.
An old stove some old woman gave to me
Some steel parts.
Engine bolts.
Air gun and cotton gloves.
Gloss black.
Parts in the oven.
Finished!
I think its nice to reuse what I can, it saves the environment and money, and its nothing wrong with that.
Then is time to take some engine parts.
Well, the picture tells it all, doesn't it.
As I said...
After sandblast, I use ordinary brown sand, 01-08mm I think.
After sandblast.
Colour used on these covers.
Done!
Waiting for an new oil eye.
And finally, the colour I chose for my 1100cc engine, on the J.
I like GOLD......
Well, that's all for a little while, this is so far in the project, waiting for more gold paint from US so I can cover the engine half's.
Also need to kick a machinist, am waiting for the triple tree...
I also have a lot to do elsewhere, so no new pictures for a week or so I think.
So tell me did you like the gold colour???
After much thinking it ended up like this, and I really likes it
Have nice night!
