Engine Paint

The last rebuild on the Z1R included hours and hours of cleaning and rubbing down the engine and spraying it black. I was advised to use a paint called 'hot spot' which is a very high temperature paint designed for woodburners and stoves. Although it looked great at the time when it was finished, it's now gone a bit patchy and as I want to do it again (glutton for punishment) can anybody recommend anything else or have any tips on painting the engine??
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! :D

like chrisu says PJ1 SATIN. there is not much better.

plasti kote bbq paint from b and q used it on exhst and eng stays satin blk does not go grey lasts fir ages

Thanks for the info - any thoughts on undercoating/baking the paint etc?
Is it ok to spray a few coats directly onto the alloy as long as it's thoroughly cleaned?

(When I do it again this time, I want to make sure it lasts!!)

i took my exhaust to LSN COATINGS and they blasted it put the PJ1 on then baked it on for me. it is spot on

Some engine paints won't need an undercoat as they etch themselves onto the bare alloy but you must make sure the alloy is totally clean, dry and grease free.

I agree with Dodgy, you need to make sure the engine is completly clean. Make sure you mask off all surfaces well. Do not put on heavy coats. Let it cure for a week or so. If you can find someone to bake it thats the best. If you can't only start the engine long enough to get it kinda hot at first. Keep on ramping up the length of run time on the engine to cure. The paint will continue to cure as you run the bike
