J Tank sender gasket

I have converted the redundant fuel tank level sender orifice to be a second fuel outlet with a plate with a hole/tube in it and a 'dry break'.
I need to make a rubber gasket to seal the new baseplate against petrol / ethanol.
So far the rubber i have had has been no good and cracked in 36 hours on test.
Anyone know where i could get some plain sheet to make one from in probably; nitrile etc.

A man with your sheet metal skills might make a 1mm sheet aluminium spacer with a hole of the rights shape to hold a 1.5 or 2mm CS O ring in place.

The problem with a sheet nitrile gasket is tightening it without distorting the gasket.

....and when it needs changing you have a new o ring to hand - not continuously cutting out gaskets.

Thanks Mark, i recently took the float bowls off the new flatslides and the complex shaped 'O' ring (understatement of the century) immediately grew by 5%.
Not such a problem for a peripheral fitting seal but one with internal returns and an added extension for the pump valves and you need 11 fingers to put them back on!!!

In reality, because of the design of the fuel sender boss welded on the tank it may prove necessary to seal all round each of the mounting bolts.

Without seeming un-grateful; i am doing two; one on the J and on on the spare tank. Typically they have different shaped bosses. One round and one oval. Nothings ever easy is it??

use shouldered bolts or screws to prevent uneven pressure on the gasket

When you put the new float bowl o rings in - superglue them. That was a tip from Allens that has worked well for me.

Thanks Paul yes shouldered bolts as standard though it will depend on the material i end up using.

That will be me in A&E getting a carb removed from my eleventh finger, the following weekend a fuel tank too.
