Well tonight I got the pesky thing off, I think the previous American owner used a whole tube of silicone on it, I will check tomorrow the valve clearances, looking in the manual the special tool looks different to the valve clearance guide :??

I was going to put it on a pane of glass with a sheet of fine emery paper and see where it goes. :)

Replied in shim thread.
Might be a good idea to remove the oil filter if not the sump as that nasty stuff has a habit of drawing to the oil feed pickup below the oil pump!

Are you ready for us to send Jim the 'traveling mechanic' yet?
He has a boat full of seamen that he smokes about in!

Only if hes bringing an Alfa exhaust to fit, then he might as well do the sump job as well

The rocker cover came off surprisingly easy although I found another stripped thread, after reading Pigfords post on some American forum I found myself on one evening I voted for buying 1/4 allen bolts for the two stripped ones, it worked a treat and with some thinner shims it all went back together nicely. :D

It was some American Kawa forum and the thread was about stripped threads, I think it was a few yrs ago now. It was a Pigford from England so I assumed it was you. :)
