cam chain guide sprocket

G'day all, I'm not sure whether i should replace the cam chain guide sprockets on my Z1B. They look OK but i dont have a new one to compare with mine. Are they a part that is subject to wear? I'll try to add a photo if i can work it out :?? [imImageg][/img]

That bit is shot for sure ,you can see the cracks in the nylon,now is the time to replace this,if you want accurate valve timing.

As a general rule I would replace as much items as I could while I have the engine apart. Chain, guides, rollers, ect. Go to Z1 enterprises site and look at the liska rollers/guides. Also go with the heavy duty chain. You do not want to pull the engine apart again because of a roller that could have been replaced.

The back and fronk guides are a different size ie. the front one has a larger bearing and a collar that fits over it's shaft, is this original or do you think these have been changed at some stage?

Kwaka, I've pulled many Z1.. Kz900 down. I believe they should be the same size. The size I have always seen is the one without the sleeve.

It would be good to know if the other ones (larger bearings) are available, however, I think someone has been innovative and borrowed one from another make/model and had the sleeve ground to suit a bigger bearing.

When condemning these sprockets, I look for breakdown in the rubber bonding between the sprocket teeth and the bearing outer. Its very hard to pick on the top sprocket as it is shielded from view by the mounting bracket frame.

Have a look at z-enterprises as teh $-? ratio makes their stuff good value at present.

They should both be like the rear one. Kawasaki fitted rubber dampers in them to quieten the camchain down. If you want accurate timing but noisier go for the Liska ones, if you want it quieter go for original ones, Looks like they will all want replacing along with the camchain as someone has already had the front one break up.

first roller is definatly not stock kawasaki, the bearing is SKF aftermarket, since the stock kawa size is 10mm and this size is not standard. only 11mm inner size is available. i tried this out many times.
