valve springs z1

#1 PostAuthor: ogre » Wed Aug 20, 2014 9:48 pm

just a question on the valve springs on my z1a. the inner springs on all of my springs are tight inside the bigger ones is this normal on these heads.on all the other heads i have stripped in the past the inner springs are loose.also in the book it says free length should be 39.3 mine are 41.3.when i stripped it the engine looked like its not run for years and some valves are bent could this have caused it.
cheers

standard springs should be a loose fit inside the outer spring

Sounds like you may have aftermarket or HD race springs fitted.
These are often a tighter fit and shouldn't have caused the bent valves.

If their free length is above the minimum limit I would leave them in unless you like wasting money.
The valves were probably bent due to either wrong valve timing or a missed gear at high revs etc .
