Z1B New Petrol Filler Cap

#1 PostAuthor: taylor88 » Thu May 29, 2014 7:22 am

Hi Guys,

I have bought a nice new petrol filler cap for the Z1B. Any pointers on how to get the 'pins' out for the cap and catch please? Hoping not to use a hammer so near the paintwork!

cheers

No real trick...just find as long a 'drift' as possible and tap it out.

Getting pins out -

mask off around filler neck and top of tank with heavy cloth / towel etc. over tank to prevent accidental damage. Cut a cardboard template to fit around filer neck if you want to be extra careful.

I used a drill bit of right diameter to tap old pin out (the rear pin seems to be a lot harder to release than the front one. Try tapping from both sides - always seem to come out easier one than the other I found.
Give it some release spray to soak in before you attempt it if it has been there for decades.

Re-fitting spring for catch -

hold spring closed by inserting into end of a small spade connector. This allows easier fit and then just pull the connector off to disengage when the pin has located correctly.

Hope that helps a bit. From Mark
