I have finished mucking around with my Z900 for the time being, and have taxed it from Tuesday. Tried to start it yesterday but it didn't fire up, but did fire a couple of times. When I turned the ignition off and took the keys out (one swift movement :?? ) it backfired, scaring the living daylights out of me.

Now it won't fire at all, not even a glimmer. I have taken one of the plugs out and spun the engine over, and there is no spark at all.

It is fitted with a Dyna-s ignition system, coils and leads.

Any ideas where to start? I have rebuilt cars from the ground up, but this is my first attempt at a bike rebuild, so on a bit of a learning curve :shock:

Hi Richard,

Take the right hand with apart and clean all the connections on the kill switch
It might be that !!!

Check you got 12 volts going to the dyna pickups.when you pass a magnet past the reluctor it should fire 2 coils and the other side should fire the other pair of coils.

I have had a Dyna fail,unknown reason,excepy Dyna would not repair it.
An eMail to the shop I bought the gpz from replaced free of charge.

If it fails again I am going back to standard pick ups,never had any bother with the J pick ups and ignitor,used it also on my Z900A4

did you leave the ignition switched on ? if so it has probably fried the dyna s module.

Ignition was only on when I was spinning the motor.

hmm... changed the plugs, fired up straight away and runs like a good'un.

How bizarre that all the plugs failed at the same time?

I have always been a NGK plug man,never used anything else,so your flood and bin them is surprising..

What is your choice of plug that is better suited,i would not mind changing camps if better suited for reliability.

NGK indeed :shock: . I have always used them in my other classic, a Rover P6 with a V8 in it, and they have never let me down, not once.

Shame if they are crap as I just bought a box of 10 of them :oops:

See this thread about crap NGK plugs. I just fitted Denso so will see how they go, so far so good!

Denso had too many probs with Ngk...
