It does'nt matter what solenoid terminal the red and black wires go to they are only going across a pair of contacts.

Ow Si your such a little teaser!!! Tank looks good mate..
Hi Bill I'm Tim. We've never met, but Im Keith and Simons mate who welded up your frame, glad your happy with it. Your rebuild is looking real nice mate, and I'm following it with much interest, as I to have an A4 which I keep threatening to restore one day. Had her for twenty years now, but not had her on the road for the last six years.............shame!! I currently have a real pretty and tidy 77 Z650 as my road bike, but I think you've inspired me to get on with the 900 . Must meet up mate and discuss where to get stuff done, and costs. I've heard about this chap called "Frying Pussy" for paintwork, but not sure about his work, looks like he uses a yard broom!!! LoL.
TIM....

Next update - has been a little while coming 'cos I took a week off and had a little tour of the north, finishing at the Yorks Rally last weekend. Before that I managed to get some time on the bike rebuild.

After red oxide I undersealed the mudguards

Image

and then finished with a silver top coat

Image

then fitted to the bike

Image

Stainless fittings will resist the weather

Image

Then cleaned up the front wheel, fitted a new Bridgestone and refitted the disc

Image
Image

then fitted on the bike

Image

thought I would try a different type of valve cap (one for Mark  )

Image

then started on the rear

Image

Rebuilt the sprocket carrier

Image

And the brake asembly

Image

Image

and fitted to the bike

Image

I now have a rolling chassis

Image

Rear mudguard on

Image

and NOS light on my mount

Image

Side stand on too

Image

Then off to collect the paint set - after the tease from Simon(Flying Tiger)

Image

It is of superb quality - the pictures speak for themselves

Image

Simon made a stainless steel pin for the cap and fitted it - he even put some silver paint around the filler neck to seal the laquer and stop the petrol attacking it.

Image

Here he is looking pleased with it...

Image

Some close ups when I got home

I can personally recommend Simon - anyone using him will not be disappointed.

Next jobs are to fit the remaining electrics - winkers, headlight and instruments.

Bikes looking real good mate. That young Simon (Flying Tiger) is a talented boy, but I wouldn't tell him that to his face, as his head gets to big!! LoL.. Joking apart, his work is second to none. My bike has paintwork done by Dream Mechine and it's crap compared to his, there's marks in it and the lacquers peeling off. That is why he is going to take the lot back to bare metal and start again.

When you do , get him to airbrush the stripes - it is so much nicer than those big thick stick on stripes from the decal suppliers.

I am really pleased with the quality of the edging on the pinstripes on my paint set.

BTW - thanks for introducing yourself - I really did like the welding. It is top notch. When I get it running I will be happy to meet for a chat about sources and costs.

I did the same thing, with one of my other bikes, and i think its well protected now!
The chrome was in a v-good condition, so no need to re-chrome...

Image

Image

Once stripped the rust off, with a drill, with a wire brush attachment.
2 coats of primer.

Image

Image

Then 2 coats of silver spray paint, to finish it off.....

Not a lot of people like this finish, and like to leave it un protected, but once this process is done, i know, i wont be looking, to do anything to front or rear guards again, or be looking for a new rear mud guard, as it's rusted from the inside out!! I think it leaves it in a v-good finish.

BTW Bill, the bikes looking SICK!!... I have heard that summer is coming?

Hi Bill,

Good progress being made now. Paint set looks real nice.

What kind of underseal can you paint on top of :?: the ones I have used are like a final coat and more paint would not adhere well.

Bit gutted my only contribution to the build got ditched before the wheels turned though  Those K logo caps are more for the Zephyr era if you ask me

Cheers from Mark
