Cracking bike's....

Bought one of these back in 82-ish as a winter hack, you could pick up 250's for next to nothing as the law had just changed meaning you could only ride a 125 on 'L's'.

I'm doing the same at the moment, Z250 A-1. Are you sure the one in the picture is a A-1 ??? I thought the A-1 was only finished in starlight silver or metallic green. Would help to know, also how compatible are the parts from the B model.

Defo an A1 the Ballington rep was offered at the same time as the stardust silver and the green ones. First one I saw was a Ballington rep in Brookspeeds shop at Dutton between Runcorn and Northwich must have been '79.

I had the silver one, it was an unreliable pile of shit that went through 3 cylinder heads and cams in 18 months, mind you it got ridden hard, had the rev counter through the red and out the other side and saw 95 on the flat one day :D :D

When I worked in the trade I spent most of a day sorting a mis fire out on one for a customer, then when it was sorted it was running well I took it for a test ride and wrote it off straight in to the side of an Austin 1100. I limped back to the shop to tell him I'd sorted the mis fire but trashed the bike..... :??

Was there some sort of filter in the sump that needed cleaning on a regular basis on this engine?

Good luck with the project
