The GS's are good bikes. They handle better than the Z1's - much better. The cylinder heads flow better than the Z1, and it is nice to be able to remove the clutch basket without splitting the cases, but the rest of the engine not really as good as the Z1. There are no cam bearings, they don't have the straight cut gears from the crank to the clutch - and this causes side-to-side wear on the thrust washer - and creates a loud clunk on many of the GS engines.

Suzuki copied so much of the Z1 design, you can easily take a GS head and drop it on the Z1 cylinder block. The cylinder spacing, the stud spacing are identical.

I have a couple of GS1000's - not as collectable as the Zeds, but good transport.
73 Z1 (turbocharged), a 74 Z1A, and some h***a's and Suzuki's...
