kickstart spline

I would like to remove my kickstart spline from 1978 z1000 a2 do i need to take the engine out, or could i remove the sum with the engine still in the frame and remove it this way. Also what would i need to do to remove it is it a easy job i want to fit a ape blank off plate

It is possible to get a rubber blanking cap to cover the spline, I have just trawled ebay, but can't find any at the moment.
They do make a naked spline look a little tidier. :??

With a bit of luck someone here will point you in the right direction.

Thanks for everyones help ive decided to split the engine just order a blank off plate from debben performance steve was very helpful with the question that i asked
