starter clutch
i have just taken a good starter clutch out of one engine and put it in an other which had a dodgy one but looking at the dodgy one i cant see anything that looks worn or broken can anybody tell me what i should be looking for any help appreciated cheers noel
Noel, usually the two main things to look for are:
1. that the 3 spring loaded rollers are smooth with no grooves, flats or sign of slipping.
2. the ground surface, on which these rollers run on, should also be as above and have no chatter marks.
Note: It only take a slight imperfection to cause these to mal-function.
More serious problems are where the rotor has come loose on the taper and where a small approx 6mm pin has broken inside the rotor, or the three large Alan-headed bolts have come loose. Also, check the round washer damper that is there, to put a little friction on the large gear wheel, so that it doesn't rattle.
