Am i missing something ? i can't seem to stop my stand rubbing againest the drive chain, should there be a stopper of some sort.

Archie, the above answers are correct, if you have four into fours. However, you may have a Kerker. Mashall, V & H, Yoshimura or many others types, which are mainly "four into one" pipes and come on the LHS or RHS.
There is an adaptor you can make that limits the movement of the centre stand and mounts onto the centre stand bolts. Most others utilise the rubber exhaust bush at rear. Some have a buffer suitably mounted on a bracket at rear.
I understand the problem cause you don't see the interference while you are riding. I rode for months with the foot of the centre-stand rubbing on the chain (It was starting to wear two neat groove in the centre-stand foot.) I have since seen many centre-stands with these grooves.
