Ok, I may get thrown off the board before I even get started but here we go.....
I am thinking of installing one of my suzuki katana wiring harnesses onto my new 77 z1000 and using the solid state ignition and reg/rec for it as well.
gotta lose the spaggetti. I will be replacing the controls with the suzuki controls as well, well, cuz its easy and I have lots. I know those harnesses inside out but the spaggetti is giving me a head ache.
The only snag may be the stator?? and for that I need some input from you experts. Everything is going solid state and its all getting hidden up behind the side covers. including the battery which will be a new small one.
Any and all comments are welcome.

The Reg and Rec on these bikes are seperate. A solid state combined reg/rec is what I was looking for and you found it dude.
I had not heard of Z1 Enterprises

I'll be honest Katman, i never liked the katana's, they were the fore runners of the rot setting in for me. the plastic fantastic period which has largely dominated the bike world ever since. i did find that the big s;s;k' engines would take plenty of abuse without complaining. solid bit of kit. from a nostalgic point of view, i can now appreciate the katana, but at the time i thought it belonged on star treck
how about a few pictures of your z1000, that would be great

Hi katman1260.
We spoke briefly on the Old Skool Performance site regarding your keyless ignition.
I'm not sure what year the big Zeds went to solid state, but I have a modified '79 Z1000 A2 which had the old separate regulator and rectifier pack which I replaced.
As mick z1a has shown above I used a solid state one, but I got mine from a junkyard at considerably lower cost.
I used the six wire type
3 for stator
1 for ground
1 for charge
1 for sense
If im talking trash somebody will put me right but Hey, mine works.

Thanks Gus, always looking to save where I can.
that is what I am about to do.
I am using GPZ550/500 regulator/rectifier unit e.g. ebay <-- thjat has starter solenoid onrigh hand side or ebay
the second is for different bike but has 6 terminals - not so good in identifying which wire is which.
these are £ 5 - (I have 2 now) dunno what that translates to in Canadian schillings but would be about $ 8 - so a hell of a lot cheaper than the one shown.
there are 6 wires.
3 yellow - to generator
black is 0 V
red/white to 12 V bttery terminal +
brown - I am not too sure on this - appears to be swtiched 12 V
