touring - oil

#1 PostAuthor: rich_england » Sun Jul 05, 2009 9:29 am

Guys - not done a lot of miles on my bike yet, so havent got a feel for oil use. I'm touring france in a couple of weeks, expect to do about 2000 miles. i don't want to pack 5 litres! what do you reckon i should expect in terms of consumption? its a z1b - no leaks, not smokey.

cheers

Shouldnt need to take any. My z1a does'nt use any. all i would do is put new oil and filter in before i set off . I use semi synthetic so if you need any when away all bike shops will sell it so just buy 1 ltr if needed, but like i said you shouldnt need any.
Hope all goes well and have a nice time, cant think off a better way of having a holiday than riding a zed round europe. :D

Does anyone else use synthetic oil? I have read many articles, even some from oil manufacturers saying not to use synthetic oil in a wet clutch engine. I had an email from a member the other day saying he was having two complete clutches replaced in his z1's due to synthetic oil being used in his engines prior to him taking ownership of them and the more miles he did the more the clutches slipped. I have always used traditional oil in my bikes and changed it every 3000 miles and have never had any trouble. I am a believer in regular oil and filter changes are the key to a long lasting engine. What are your thought? Anyone else had trouble with synthetic ? It would be interesting to hear your thoughts.

All i ever use is semi synthetic in all my road bikes, except my race bikes then its fully synthetic. never had any trouble, just make sure its a motorcycle oil and not a car oil. Motorcycle oil has an additive to stop clutch slip. A cars clutch does'nt run in oil.
