GB. We'll have a chat about gearing etc when I see you on Friday (he's picking up a new toy) :D

I run a 530 conversion too, but with 18" wheels. 18 tooth front and 38 tooth rear gives me 90mph @ 5000rpm.

I am glad to see that you have solved your clearance problem.
I just mounted a ZRX arm and I know it is not as tall as your arm. I really like your bike! How do you like your seat? I was thinking of gitting one.

Thanks for that Tracktime, The seat I am still unsure about. I am happy with the colour & the fact it's covered in leather, it's just the 'style', it reminds me a little. of a 'king & queen' seat :??

Been out on this today :D Had a little trouble getting it started, then remembered to turn the fuel on!
Chain is quite slack when bike is parked/unladen & is adjusted that way so that when I've got me fat arse on it & taken up all the suspension travel it is spot one. Problem is made worse by having the swinging arm set to give reasonable ride height :??
I am now looking to fit some sort of chain tensioner/idler underneath the swinging arm to take up the extra slack

Right then, time for an update on my chain issues;
I adjusted the chain tension, with the suspension fully compressed, once the suspension returned to it's static position there was about 50mm of chain play, far from ideal, but I feared some serious output shaft bearing problems by running with the chain any tighter.
This prompted me to go in search of some sort of chain tensioner........................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Some time later & after a couple of false starts I came up with this;
Image
This was the 'prototype' mounted on the swinging arm, where the original chain guide would bolt to. I didn't really like it (bracket would of been finished of!) as it was a bit too 'obvious'.
I think the answer had been staring me in the face, the Harris rearsets have a multitude of threaded holes in them & it was a breeze to mount it to the back of that.
Image
This picture was taken without the footrest attached, but does show things a little more clearly.
I had also struggled to find a suitable idler wheel, & wanted something that ran on bearings....... Another flash of inspiration, skate board wheels! I bought a set of wheels, bearings & trucks. I found that they run on an 8mm shaft....... which made mounting really easy, I thought I would have to remove the shaft from the truck, but as it happened an 8mm bolt was perfect.
I turned down the edges of the wheel, the raised centre of the wheel now runs on the chain rollers.
Image
The tensioner itself, is an industrial bit of kit, which came from www.crossmorse.com It cost about £30.00 inc delivery.
The whole thing sits fairly discreetly behind the footrest, I took it out for a bit of a shakedown run today & after about 30 miles, all seems to be working well :D :D

Bike is running well, except for getting a bit 'fluffy' during tickover.
Today's news is I have ordered another rear sprocket (40t) as I find the current 19/42 a little bit 'high revin'........................ I know this doesn't fit with popular ratio opinion, but my bike (J Browse Bitza) revs it's tits off with whatever recommended ratios I have fitted

Thats a very popular opinion as far as i'm concerned GB and ties in exactly with the ratio calcs i posted for 17" wheels a while ago. Thanks. :D

Took this out for a bit of a run last night, mainly to check out my revised gearing........ Almost there!
I found the bike 'white lined' quite a bit  , so made a mental note to check the tyre pressure's.
I did just that tonight.................. 20psi in each  :no  :no whoops!!

Bike handling is transformed with the correct tyre pressures :D :D :D

Decided to try & tackle the bike sooting up during tickover. The carbs are 28mm fitted with 17.5 pilots & a dynojet 140 main & needle.
The carbs were fairly clean, or so I thought, but decided to give them a dip in my ultrasonic cleaner with a bit of Mistral US-CAR cleaning fluid..... very impressed
Image
I am sure the problem I have is in the pilot circuit. I had hoped ultrasonic cleaning would have done the trick.
I synchronised the slides on the bench. I used a small drill bit as a guage & adjusted all the slides so that the drill bit was a light sliding fit beneath the slide & the carb body. Previously I had used some vacuum guages, but the slides seemed to be miles out. One thing is for sure, using the 'bench' method the exhaust note seems to sound a lot 'crisper'.
The bike still runs very rich at Idle, even witrh the air screw 3 turns out
I have a set of size15 pilot jets, which I will try next, but considering the bike is running K&N filters & a pretty unrestrictive exhaust, I am amazed I need to go this small.

Other thing I fitted while the carbs were of was a nice shiney APE oil breather............................. And 'breathe' it did, bloody everywhere.
Image
Got home & it was literally running all over the place. I have since mounted a much longer hose & will mount some sort of catch tank before I venture out again.

She was looking good when you ventured over yer.

I have a notion that I have seen breathers fed back to the engine via a pipe running into the filler cap - that appeals to my sense of meanness
