#1 PostAuthor: stephen lavery » Tue Jun 02, 2009 8:47 pm

just fitted new alternator 3 phase. and new combined reg/rec from zed power. but battery still not holding charge. plugs very sooty. new plugs and battery. the reg/rec is a straight plug in to original green block connector, black wire to earth, white to fuse. there is another separate connector two blue wires looping back into same connector one red going into small connector, dont know were this goes? carbs set, float heights ect. bike pulling strong but fouling plugs. i think its wiring or maybe ignition (boyer bransden fitted. got 14.5 volts when fitted new parts last week. but battery flat tonight. give reading of 11.8 volts. IM SURLY LOSING IT.

Stevie give me a ring and I'll work out some way of getting a manual to you there's a testing procedure for measuring charging output. Don't know what those spare wires are I thought there was only one connector on that unit. I could lend you a Dyna to try for elimination purposes if you want.

Is the battery OK? It might be worth taking it off the bike charging it, then check it after a couple of days to see if it's held it's charge. If you had 14.5 volts when the bike was running it sounds like your charging system may be OK.
