scratched disc on z1a?

#1 PostAuthor: mick znone » Sun May 31, 2009 12:16 pm

mot time again this week, my front disc seems to have developed a scratch in the centre, the pad is grooved on the same spot. any ideas what could have caused this?the scratch is on the piston side. the clip that holds the disc in place is not scratched, so it cant be that.

The scratch you refer to, is usually caused by the lower mounting bolt being too long, or the lower mounting bolt spring washer & /or washer being left off. Investigate and see if the scratch lines up with the above mentioned bolt.

thanks Garn, spot on mate, went straight out to check, sure enough, id over tightened the lower bolt, it was catching the disc. Ive ground down the bolt a bit and put an extra washer in. i am terrible for overzealousness with things. now i have to get some emery cloth on the disc

Mick. You`ll find that you can`t skim a stainless disc because they chatter.

You will have to get it surface ground if it really is that bad.
