carb bowls

carb bowls
got a set of z1 carbs,two of the bowls have been chromed.does anyone want to swap,either pair.(chrome for not or not for chrome)the ones with 17mm bolt underneath.or does anyone know how to get chrome off.

Hi Hillbilly , if you have access to 69% nitric acid this will do the trick , but don't mix with any other acids or anything caustic . It does gas a bit so do it outside , i dechromed all my engine casings when i was an electroplating technician, Do not use any other acids or caustic based strippers as this will damage the ally . you can also speed up the process by connecting up a small battery say six volts with the negative side to the carb bowls and the positive in the acid this turns the bowls into anodes , it's just reverse plating really.

Hi Hillbilly,no particular reason its what i used to use to for detection of chloride in copper plating solutions , and its about the purest form of nitric available , some dilute it but i used as is . it's an analytical grade . I guess you will then polish the nickel off after , it doe'nt take long as it would only be a few microns thick , good luck

You've clearly never owned a chinese bike with chrome rims.
Just a few rides through winter weather did the trick for me
