Wanted Z1B LH Caliper and Bracket

#1 PostAuthor: martinz1b » Sat Apr 25, 2009 6:35 pm

Wanted a reasonably priced Z1B L/H Caliper with bracket, condition unimportant as long as working with removable bleed nipple. I will renovate it myself. It must be the correct fitting for the Z1B, I already have two Z900/1000 calipers that don't fit

I have now decided to fit my spare Z1000 forks and calipers until I can get an original Z1B caliper from somewhere.

Thanks to all that bothered replying. :boom

They are always on ebay have a look, it would be better than going to all the hassell of changing the front end even if you had to buy from the states

I understand what you are saying, I have been looking on ebay but not in the states. I have a complete front end ready to fit from a Z1000. I just want to get the bike nearer to roadworthy before the end of the summer, it is only a temporary solution. I have had the bike since 1978 and it has been stored for 15 years so I shouldn't really rush after all of that time.

I will start searching on Ebay US now that the exchange rate is getting better.

Thanks Dave.

What's a reasonable price?

I was open to peoples offers, I would not pay say more than £50 for one that needed renovation but had everything there. At the moment ZPower are offering replica ones for £145 new, as the bike will not be a show bike it doesn't matter what I end up fitting. If i could get a more modern one that would fit the width of the disc I would get a mounting bracket made up. I have taken an offer up of one that needs to be fully renovated for £15 and am quite happy.

I wasn't suggesting that people are selling things at inflated prices on this site because that is not my experience, but when you scour ebay for bits there are some people who are making a mockery of it. DK motorcycles for example being one of them.

50 pound sounds more than reasonable to pay for a rebuildable caliper, Zpower? they just seem to double the cost of Japanese retail to arrive at their prices.
At 15 pound you've done well! I find the frustrating thing about getting items like this is the expense of shipping, not so much the shipping....rather the inevitable rip off overcharge that usually accompanies an eBay win from our American cousins...
Regarding adapting a different caliper, I recall Doremi or PMC can supply billet adapters that allow for fitting Brembo or Lockheed calipers. It doesn't matter now though as you seem to have it sorted.

GBH, I agree completely about shipping from the States, before the crash of the pound I bought quite a large amount of spares from Z1parts.net and his shipping was fair, but when you look at individual sellers they are taking the p*ss. Such as $47 for a top front brake pipe in one case. Still if they want to sell internationally they are the ones losing out on a lucrative business.

I didn't know PMC did adaptors for the Brembo and Lockheed calipers. Thanks for pointing that out.

Hillbilly, are the mounting holes on the caliper brackets that you have set too far apart by almost an inch to fit your Z1 fork mountings. If so I believe they are from the later models. The mounting on the left in the picture is my old Z1B mount and the one on the right is from a Z900/1000 I think.

I am now 99% sure I have a caliper for you but wont have it until friday. I will photograph it for you and send you a picture and if you are happy you can have it all in for £50 which includes postage. I agree about USA prices and their rip off postage costs, however the other thing to remember is a lot of the time Mr post man ask for duty to be paid the current VAT rate and a handling fee for good measure!
