Hi, I just came accross this link in an older post from january, I thought it was pretty interesting reading and theory- http://www.wgcarbs.com/index.php?option ... &Itemid=26.

Has anyone on here done this mod and with what results, I'd be interested to hear any opinions or experience on it.
I have'nt fired up the bike yet since starting work on it, but getting near the end now, I have a Dyna s ignition, 3ohm Dyna coils and Dyna leads gone on and the Denso plugs and have completely stripped and rebuilt/repaired the whole harness and all electrics. She should be A1 when I finally push the Doomsday button :twisted: , but the article in the link about installing the relay and boosting power to the coils caught my attention, so the floor is open...... :idea: ?

this has been done at length, the basic thing is it takes out all the old connections and gives direct power to the coils, saves on refurbing on all the switch gear.

Purists will say if you refurb the wiring and switches there is no problem, us realists say "Job done"
Take your choice
NB if you have the same voltage at the coils as across the battery then no problem

hi zoa,it does help but not a miracle cure if you know what i mean. i fitted a dyna s and did somthing similar taking a + positive from the rear brake switch (handiest switch +supply ) .can remember exactly but there,s a thread on this site about it.
sorry to hear of your brake mishap ,hope all is ok ,as gb said the forks might have just turned in the yokes.
hoping to fit a second disc on my own a4 soon as the brakes are shite :!:

ZOA, I've always been a fan of Wg's relays. I have installed about four or five of them and they always gave me an instant start. I'm now at the stage, where I tend to buy new h'bar controls and ignition switches and the voltage drop as compared to battery voltage, is negligible at the coils when new equip is used. As Taffus says "If you have the same voltage at the coils as across the battery, then no problem"

I wonder about those damp rainy days/nights and I think those relays installations would be somewhat more reliable. I have to conclude that new switches, ignition, Lhs & Rhs h'bar controls... Don't bother. Old switch gear, would be a worthy installation of the relay mod'.

Cheers for the input lads, the battery is gone back on a full slow charge, I'm going to chance sticking in the spare regulator I have, its an original but it's worth a shot :wink: , methinks however that I shall be digging deep in the pocket again an getting a new combined unit :roll:
Saying all that, it did fire up on first push of the button after rebuild an settled into a nice even tickover straight away :D .

All new switch gear gone on the bike by the way, the originals were a complete, horribly gouged and corroded mess.

In the meantime, it's back out to the shed to take apart the front end to see what damage yesterdays "incident" has done and hopefully set things straight....literally.

Pigfords yer man on the 'ignition relay' theory.... he can supply you with a schematic.
