Piston ring compressor - Kawasaki special tool

#1 PostAuthor: fredswat » Mon Apr 20, 2009 7:00 pm

Right guys I know I got a bit arse about the dissh washer incident but I hope you won't bear a grudge. Has anyone in the midlands ( Coventry area) got a Z1 piston ring compressing tool I am having the devils own job trying to get the barrel on. I have just broken one of the rings and fear the worst if I keep trying to use my fingers to compress the rings and push the barrels down at the same time. I would be happy to pay postage both ways if someone has one to lend to me or I could collect. Hope you can help

Have a look at this, I used Pigfords method :?? , worked a treat, and that was on a 1075 so there was no taper left on the barrells at all. Took about half an hour tops.

Fred,
The plastic/cable tie way looks like the way to go. I used some large hose type clips the last time I did it, but will use this method next time............. Oh and the dish washer incident :hon Let's say no more!

Fredswat, if you do go down the road of using the "Kawasaki" ring compressor, be sure you get the correct one. Evidently, there are two (or more) sizes. That is >=1000cc pistons can't be compressed with the 900cc ring compressor. They each have their own patt number. I have seen the two different numbers mentioned on this forum not long ago.

As mentioned above, the cut-down, thick plastic bottle with the cable tie, is probably the way to go! You are probably fitting 1000 pistons into bored-out 900 barrels, where there is no taper left, to provide easy access for rings
