Cheers Mick,
I have always been quite 'mechanically sympathetic' as I know what damage this could do to my engine. But I feel the need to get to the 'Ace' on something Zed related (The Money Muncher needs new sprockets... see thread) & I know this is not an official Z1OC 'listed' bike, but as far as I am concerned, It is the very last of the 8v 4 cylinder & more importantly air cooled Kawasaki's ever made, that was based on the original Z1..... (the zephyr is a whole different engine)
I can't ever see me owning a Z1 (the start of the line)...... But I am proud of owning me Z1000 (in the middle) & do not see how the GPz 1100 A cannot be 'officially' included, just cos it is monoshock.
So as far as I am concerned, I have the 'last' of the line too.
I can't understand the comment on the intro page, "it all changed when it went monoshock" (or something similar) I think it should have read, something like "It all changed when it went WATER COOLED"

Oh Mick, you've got me ranting.............................. & Yes :pist but I would say the same thing in the morning :bear

Quick update on this,

Got it to the Ace on Sunday, cost me nearly as much in oil as petrol!
On the way we stopped near Reading, it was there I discovered that the jeepster was INCONTINENT  . She had pi**ed oil all over my left boot & the leg of my new Draggin' jeans, or 'Skidders' as the wife to be call's 'em.
Any how, checked oil level, which was ok & carried on. We did the last part on the motorway, as time was against us!
The north circular was busy & hence slow, this caused the Jeepster to 'warm' slightly. Once at the Ace we queued to park. That made her really 'Hot' & by the time I parked, the fresh oil leaked from the cylinder head gasket, was smokin' like a good 'un. Some one did compare it to a two stroke!!
More later......... Me dinner is ready

Checked oil level before I left the ACE......... There wasn't any :?? :??
Stopped at the first garage to find they only sold it by the gallon. Managed to buy a litre at the next garage & came out to find another couple of bikers looking very concerned at the oil smoke coming from the bike. It wasn't that bad.... honest!
Got on the motorway & had only done a couple of miles when the bike started to die. First of all I thought I had forgotten to turn the fuel on, but the bike has developed some sort of starvation problem, but I managed to limp the thing all the way home at 60mph. Good day out!!

Right,
Got the head off of this today, but found more signs of butchery/bodgery first
Image
It wasn't even tight!!
It looks like someone has been inside this quite recently. The head came off no trouble at all & the gaskets just fell off. It looks to have been recently rebored, honing marks are still very visable.

Bore measures 72.45mm, anyone know if thats the first size over, or more?
The head has a couple of iffy M6 threads which I could helicoil quite easily, the downer is the valve clearances. They were all pretty tight/non existent when I checked before the Ace. I started taking out & measuring the shims, which were generally 2.40 & 2.45 I was quite happy with that till I came across one that is only 2.10 :( :( I don't think a 2.00 will give enough clearance & the manual suggests you cannot grind these 'shim under bucket' valves. I could poss try a new valve with more meat on the seating face, but I plan to whip the head off of another complete engine tomorrow & see if that is more suitable. While I'm at it I will see what is marked on the cam's, as this has me a little concerned that these are not the right cams :?? :??
