1175 Big Bore Z1000

#1 PostAuthor: Skunkwurcx » Thu Apr 16, 2009 2:38 pm

I have an opportunity to get my mits on a Z1000 with an 1175 Big Bore kit in it. Assuming the job was done right, are there reliability/tuning etc etc problems with these kits ?

This the quote from the seller as to the work performed :The cylinders were changed to 1175cc Dunstall Big Bore Kit. Heads polished and ported - larger stainless steel valves installed and heavy duty valve springs. Cams were changed mildly.

As an example of my concerns, there is a big bore kit available for my ZX, however, the majority opinion on these is to stay away as they have reliability/tuning problems.

Anyone know anything 'bout these then ?

18 months ago we tuned a z1a engine and fitted a 1105 wiseco piston kit, bigger valves, valve springs, race cams, gas flowed and ported head and some smooth bore carbs as well as an electronic ignition. It runs and performs very well and is very quick and we have had no issues at all. Debbens might be worth giving a call as they specialise in kits etc and will know what works best.
