Z1 Lester Mags

#1 PostAuthor: martinz1b » Tue Apr 14, 2009 5:47 am

If possible has anyone a close up picture of the dust cover on the front hub of a six bolt Lester mag wheel, I need to find or make one because the standard Kawasaki one does not fit

Thanks

Durham, I don't think they make a dust cover. An alternative is to look at fitting another disc. This will entail fitting a RHS caliper and having your master cylinder bored to fit the nominal 5/8" kit. Expensive, but worth it for those great Lester mags.

Yeah I thought so, I didn't want to go down that twin disc route because of the cost, the splitters alone go for silly prices on Ebay.

Thanks

The splitters from a Z900-A4 and Z1000 A1/2, do fit. They don't look out of place and are not that expensive. The silly priced item is usually with that long Z1 series splitter and the RHS centre piece of the caliper. The only other bit is the RHS cable holder that mounts on the front guard.

Good luck. Surely, someone with lester mags has made up a front dust cover?

And also the six bolt disc does not come onto Ebay very often and are usually dearer than the four bolt version. Just my luck :(

I have most of the other bits in my box of spares.
Cheers

I don't know about that but these are definitely for the early Z1 range with drum brake. I will keep the discs in mind.

Thanks

Can't get any pictures yet, but it seems very unlikely that all of the Z1 bits would fit into the wheels perfectly, such as the cush drive and the speedo drive and my one disc. But I am no expert and you may be right. I will look into it closer when I get more time.

I spent ages looking for Suzuki Lesters with 6 bolts, they command a high price on Ebay so you may be sitting on some good money there!

The Kawasaki 4 bolts were much easier to get (2 years ago..) I know there were a few Kettle club members sitting on Kawasaki Lesters in the hope of the Suzuki lesters turning up. May be worth your while approaching the Kettle club...

Taffus, those six bolt discs you have. Could you tell me the diameter of the inside hole that slots onto the hub and also if possible the distance between the bolt holes diagonally. I have had a look at some pictures of GT750 discs and they look different at those two points.

Thanks
Mart

Hi Taffus. I've had a closer look at the wheels and this is what I have found. The rear wheel looks like it is capable of taking two different types of cush drive rubbers, the offset hole is for the Z1 and the centred hole could be for the Suzuki. The speedo drive fits perfectly onto the front wheel. The internal diameter of the centre hole is 82mm and the disc mounting holes are approximately 101mm to each centre. I am beginning to wonder if these fit both models, I need to sort this out before I get them stove enamelled and polished.

Regards
Martin
