Hi Chris, when the crank is on the T mark, the cut out on the right hand end of exhaust cam should be pointing towards the front of bike paralel with the head, and the cut out on the right hand end of inlet cam should be pointing towards the rear of the bike paralel with the head.
this may be a silly question, but is the cam sprocket on the right way round, is the number 4 mark on the reverse side of the sprocket.
Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Managed to sort it in then end. Put it on TDC for 1&4 then made sure that the lobes were pointing away from each other on no.1 cylinder (on verge of openng exhaust if engine turned forward and on verge of opening inlet if engine turned back). Counted number of pins from top of head and was spot on 28 with no 28 mark on inlet cam sprocket ! But there are no timimg marks on the exhaust cam sprocket, nothing lined up with the head !
Turned by hand a few times to make sure it was correct. Put all back together. Started first time ! Hooray, no sign of bent valves or any strange noises, but will need to take her for a ride to make sure she is ok.
Thanks all who responded during this thread.
Beer to celebrate hopefully no serious expenses !
Cheers
