Funnily enough rich last time it worked right was just before it had its rear end shunt last october its had a new tank well 2nd hand but new to the bike i dont no the history of the tank at all 1st time i saw it was when it came back from the painters dont suppose there could be some sort of contamination in the tank, i checked the fuel tap again and its free flowing, in my garage i found an old manky set of NGK plugs stuck them in and bugger me if it didnt fire 1st jab on the button took it for a spin and all seemed well i will try it again in the morning meanwhile any thoughts you have on this rich or anyone would be most welcome.

If its OK again with a plug chop.... points (no pun) to ignition side rather than fuel... But its never clear cut

Could have just wet the plugs causing them to short the spark straight down the insulator without jumping the gap.

What's the inside of the tank look like, any brown sediment in the float bowls? Thoughts are rust blocking jets / causing float valves to stick open.

Did you drain the carbs / strip them down over winter?

Inside of the tank dont look to bad, but there was a bit of sediment collected round the strainer of the fuel tap when i took it off yesterday, didnt drain or strip carbs over winter but stripped them yesterday pretty clean realy but washed the bowls and jets out in white spirit and made sure they were clear, would the carbs benefit from a re build kit.

Rebuild kit - doubt it. Check that the jets are clean pilots as well as mains and that the emulsion holes are clear. What sediment around the strainer, paint overspray?

Thoughts at present are paint overspray / rust bits causing jets to block / needle valves to flood. There may be nothing wrong that a bit of use and flushing some fuel through won't cure. Did it happen the first time you took it out after putting the new tank on?

No it was fine id say for about the first 50 or so miles then it developed a slight splutter as you pulled away till it gradually got worse and worse.

Is that 50 miles from initial start up or been riding before and 50 miles into one run?

Does it run Ok now after clearing out the water and putting different plugs in?

50 miles over a couple of runs, and seems ok so far with the old plugs in fingers crossed
