Put the barrels on at the weekend its a 1075 kit so the bore had taken most of the chamfer off the bottom of the barrels. I dont have a ring compressor!
Put assembly grease on the rings and in the bore then cut a 1 inch wide strip of plastic off an old pets drink bottle long enough to wrap round the rings cut small tabs at the top and bent it back so the plastic would get carried down as i pushed the barrels down. I then used plastic cable ties to wrap round the plastic and compress the rings, slid the barrels on and the pistons just went straight in with no problems at all.
I figured by using plastic I could not scratch the pistons or any thing.
Once the pistons were in I just cut the cable ties and pulled the plastic off.
It only took a few minutes and cost nothing.
Just thought someone else might find this usefull.

There you go nothing new under the sun!! Your ways better as well cos that plastic is thicker so you wouldnt have to muck about making little tabs on the top like I did! Works well though doesnt it.
Mines got the head on now all torqued down with nice heavy duty Ape studs and nuts; daring me to go out and put the cams in
which is the bit I am not looking forward too!
I did have a real result though before I put the pistons in: this bike used to belong to a mate and when he had the engine rebuilt by Dave Berkshire back in the early 90s it was supposed to have had the oil pump pick up mod, and the crank welded. Well I all ready knew from when I had the sump off that the oil pump had not been reversed, but looking down the barrels with a torch the crank has been welded
well happy with that
