Mmmmmmmm
Just spoken to B&C Express who tell me a 36t sprocket would have to be specially made
Not too expensive at £40 & 3-4 day turnaround.
Will speak to Debbens & see what they have to say on the matter.

What size rear wheel?
What size front sprocket?
What chain?
What speed do you want to do at what revs?
What gearbox?

Rear wheel is 17" fitted with 180/55 Tyre
Front sprocket is 15 tooth
Chain is 530
Just want it geared to cruise at reasonable revs. I guess 80mph @ 5000rpm
Gearbox (as far as I am aware) is std Z1000A1/2

33t rear should be 80 at 5k in top.

leaving the rear at 38 a 17 front will give 78. but you may need a new chain.

At 5K on that gearing it works out at 70 mph.

Diameter of rear wheel calculated at 24.8 inches

Rich,
You are a Gent! Armed with that info I will get a 17t front sprocket & keep the 38t on the rear. Chain should be ok, as I left it as long as I could when I fitted it... just in case! Just hope Debbens have got em in stock.

Just when I thought the problem was solved........................... It's not!
I dug out the original Debben receipt to double check what size front sprocket I had, before ordering another......... 17t  I have whipped of the sprocket cover to double double check and guess what........ 17t   Sorry Rich & everyone else for feeding you all duff info. I was convinced I had a 15t on the front
To re-cap what I actually have is 17t front & 38t rear & the bike is deffo undergeared.
At the very beginning of this thread I mentioned this bike was a bit of a bitsa, put together by John Browse, for his best man, many moons ago. I am now wondering if the gearbox that is fitted is from another model? Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
I am gonna call John Browse this morning & see if he can shed any light on it.......... a long shot I know, but worth a try.

Well I've just got of the phone, after speaking to John. He has assured me that the bottom end was never touched. I am now wondering could the whole lump have come from something else? And before anyone asks what the engine No. is, I don't think that will help as it doesn't appear to be 'original'.

Judging by the above you could still have room to come downon the sprocket front although as you say maybe your swing arm limits you. Can you go to a "private testing facility" and see what speed it does flat out in top with the current gearing?

Check the diameter of the rear wheel.

http://john.rushworth.com/Pics/TT600RE_Gearing/

according to the manual primary reduction ratio = 1.73
5th gear = 1.22

Thanks Chris,
I really don't want to run the bike flat out just yet, been re-bored etc.
I have however lowered the back end a little to help reduce the swinging arm/chain interface. I have also bought a bicycle speedo, to double check the speedo reading.

Rich,
I have checked the diameter & I make it 24.25" not that far from what you used (24.8") to do the calculations. I have also played around with that calculator, but cannot understand why the readings don't add up. I have also checked various manuals & google to try & find any different values for the ratios you have used, but all I can find is the same as you have used.
I think I'll end up doing it by 'feel' after all that, probably end up changing both sprockets, may opt for something like a 35 rear & if I need any more I will upsize the front to 18t..... Money Muncher:1 Ginger Bear:0

I think you have done the right thing there Brian, hopefully watching this thread will help you with you're own final drive ratios!
