#1 PostAuthor: sparky650 » Wed Mar 11, 2009 6:48 pm

My starter motor just spins and spins like its not engaging ? Ive took the motor out and checked the bushed and they are within tollerence , checked all the wiring and thats ok as well . I put it all back together but it still wont turn the engine over and still just spins without engaging ?

hi sparky, i am sure it will be the starter clutch mechanism. it is the part that the starter slots into. located in the gearbox it is possible to do with the engine in(just).but the easiest way is to remove the engine and turn it upside down. dont be tempted to use second hand bits,it will end in tears.complete new clutch assy available from z power.

Cheers AL MARSHAL , could i ask why the engine needs to be turned upside down ? Is there a part thats broken that needs to come out from the gear box ? It just gives more of an idea about what i need to be looking for and if ill attempt to do the job myself if its not too hard .

Cheers.

Is this the part i will need :?:

hi sparky, yes those are part of the problem. i replaced a complete set of those and it still didnt work :x you have to replace the hub that they act upon.this requires pulling a shaft out of the side of the box and the hub can then be dropped out. getting the new one in is easy if the engine is upside down. it only requires the sump and side casings off,you dont disturb the "engine"part or have to split the casings.its not difficult should take less than two hours on the bench...good luck
