There's an idea Mick  , if only I could get hold of a 'Stella Party seven' (drinking it would be fun :D :D ), then I could turn the empty can into a 'right Blunderbus' of an exhaust

Right then, a quick update.
Spent Saturday fitting a new grommet to the altenator cable. This in it's self has raised a few problems/questions all of it's own. You can read it in a bit more detail in this thread
http://z1ownersclub.co.uk/forum/viewtop ... fe95658f06
My main concern is the condition of the cables on my altenator. The insulation is very brittle & cracked. I want to be able to use this bike, not just take pictures of it, so I want/need it to be reliable. The thought of breaking down, or worse some sort of electrical fire fills me with woe.
Currently I have fitted heat shrink to the cables where they were cracked & all seem's ok for now, but I am gonna fit a new altenator & combined regulator/rectifier probably from electrex.
MOT is booked for this Friday, I will sort electrics after that.

Right, I've done the deed!
I have ordered a new generator/stator & combined regulator/rectifier from Electrex. £126.70 inc VAT & delivery, should be here tomorrow. :D

Thanks guys, for your positive comments on me MOT. Tax disc arrived this week, so it was out for the first blast in anger this afternoon :D Well I say a 'blast in anger' but more of 'shake down' really. I returned home after approx 1/2 a mile as I'd cut off the cable tie that was holding the clutch cable away from the zorst header whilst experimenting with me oil cooler. I do plan to order the proper clip, but have fitted another cable tie for now so I could carry on. I did about 25 miles altogether, which were most enjoyable. I would have done more, but this was a 'shake down' not a joy ride

First problem I have is the speedo has gotta be miles out, as I am running a 17" front wheel. I plan to get one of the cheap pushbike jobs, or 'borrow' the wife to be's Tom Tom to work out the 'variation' the hopefully get Mr Big Fluff to make me some nice new clock faces that will read the correct speed.

Second problem is the bike seems to be 'undergeared' ie reving it's nuts of, without going very fast. I am running a 15 tooth front sprocket & a 38 tooth rear. I cannot go any smaller on the rear, as the chain will cut through the swinging arm :( I have checked Debben's website & see they do a 17 & 18 tooth front sprocket. I will speak to them next week & see what they suggest. But I would be interested to know what gearing anybody else is running with 17" wheels.

Third problem, bike seems to get a bit 'wooly' or 'choked' when sat in traffic. I have 17.5 pilots, K&N's 1105cc Pilot screws were out 1 1/4 turns. I have wound them out to 1 3/4 turns now & will see what happens on the next run.

Fourth problem is a persistent oil leak from the sump. It comes from the part that is closest the the big 'O' ring. I have tried all sorts to date & was wondering if the 'O' ring was the wrong thickness & it's that that is stopping the sump sealing properly, or the sump has been skimmed. Any one else had this problem?

I've got a colourtune you can borrow if you want?
I know it's old fashioned, but I find it works a treat on adjusting idle mixtures.

I'm running 17 / 33 on the z1r with 17''s. I did have 15 / 36 but it was like a crosser with the front coming up or massive wheel spins in every gear. I haven't got any prob's with the chain fouling the chunky zxr swinger though ? but i did put a polyethylene runner near the pivot just in case ( The black thing near the tax disc) Image

Piggy,
That would be good if you don't mind. looking at what Zed1015 is running I think I will go straight for the 18 tooth front.

Zed1015,
I think chain runs on swingarm cos I've jacked up the back, but I do have a nylon runner fitted & once I've got me fat arse on board it's really not a problem. Just don't want smaller sprockets as that would compound the problem, so a larger front I think is the way to go.

Maralyn,
Might take you up on the colourtune if this 'tweak' doesn't help. I want to get the thing at least partially run in, then stick it on the dyno. I also have a hankering for a set of Mikuni Flatslides, so don't want to waste too much time & effort on the current ones, & believe me, I already have!!
