Clutch plates

#1 PostAuthor: ROZZER » Sat Feb 28, 2009 5:36 pm

Stripped clutch on my Z1B today as I suspected that friction plates were worn (bite point is at very end of lever travel, have adjusted it without any improvement). Friction plates all measure 3.75- 3.8 mm thick, manual says replace if 3.5 or less so on the face of it they are OK. Anyone know what a new one measures? Springs are all 34.5 mm long, manual says replace if 32.3mm or less - again they appear OK- Are stronger springs worth while on standard motor?
Found one of the friction plates was broken! Anyone got a spare serviceable friction plate, I don't want to fork out for a full set if they are OK for wear. Will pay for plate + postage.

Cheers

John, I may have a spare friction plate. It is from a ST, they will be the same, I'm sure. I will check condition in the morning & let you know.

Thanks GB, 3.04 is well below wear limit for Z1(although I think the ST limit is 2.9mm) Looks like I'm gonna persue a new set - offer appreciated.
