Hi. Think your zed is shit hot. Other peoples projects always seem better that my own for some reason. Think it's coz you get used to seeing it every day. My Zed uses zx9r b forks which give plenty of ground clearance. They are near identicle to the zx7's but are longer coz they protrude through the top yoke for the bars to clamp on to. So you just have to drop them through the yoke and either fit renthals or as i have done put the clip-ons under the yoke and hey presto an extra 50mm or so of ground clearance.

Just won these babies on ebay, don't think I,ll use them on this bike.
I will just stash em away for now, ready for the next project
Just removed these links sorry!, despite copying the links for these when I was 'logged out' of ebay, they come up on here 'logged in'
Not saying it would happen, but I would rather NOT take the chance of anyone bidding on my behalf!!!!!
Here's the item No. instead 190281704773 Just copy & paste this into the ebay search box to see what I,ve bought

Hi Knut,
I agree, in it's day the ZX7R front end was indeed reported 'as one of the best in the business'
I had a brand spanker in '98 & loved it
Lime green was the way to go! The Red version looked poo
I guess this bike is a combination of what I have had & loved in the past.
Hopefully extensions & yokes will be here soon, will post pic's as soon as.

Bugger
Just got me 'new' ZX9R forks. They are not in the condition I had hoped for.
That'll teach me for being so smug when I won 'em
My big problem is with the rust/pitting at the bottom of the sliders.
I have contacted the ebayer that they came from & he has agreed with no quibles, to 'ave 'em back. For a full refund. Goes to show, they're not all bad.
I did wonder if I could make a hybrid fork, using the taller ZX9R uppers & ZX7R lowers. That plan was quickly foiled. ZX7R lowers are 43mm, ZX9R lowers are 41mm

The pitting is worse than it looks in the photo's. I would be interested to know if any one has managed to remove the caliper/wheel mount to get these re-chromed

Hi. Bottom of the leg unscrews. Hardest bit is usually getting the grub screw out .It can be drilled out if need be. I have done this plenty of times. If you send the legs off to be rechromed to HCP&G over nottingham way ( you'll find them advertising is plenty of bike mags) they will remove the bottoms and re-fit them as part of the job.

Right then,
bit of an update, hope you're sitting comfortably!
Picked these up today
All the way home I was oggling 'em, thinking ooooer......... they are beautifully made.
I was a good boy, finished my day's work, then did me household chores (no, not the ironing like Piggy), then set foot in the garage.
it was already late, so I thought I would just 'piece' the parts together.
All was well until I slid the extension into the top yoke.
Feck, Feck, Feck, extensions have been made 51.10mm (same as the caps) the forks are 51.90mm, so I am 0.8mm adrift
The top yoke clamps up tight, but doesn't quite grip the fork (extension)
I will ask the fabricator tomorrow, if they can remove a little material from the 'pinch' point of the yoke, hopefully that will do the trick & they will clamp up tightly.
I did briefly explore 'option B'
Which worked really well, but I would rather do the job 'properly' (Sainsburys tonic is a credit crunch measure, we will be back to Schweppes, when all the 'crunch shit' is over)

KwackerZ1,
For me the top adjusters (preload & damping) will still work as I have extended the internals too. If you go back a bit on this thread, there are pictures.
Pigster,
Keith at KMKustoms is your man, there is a link to thier website earlier in this thread. They cost £100/pair + VAT, which I think is fantastic value.

Hi GB,
Classy looking extensions mate!
I saw your recommendation for KM and sent an order in for them to do some extensions for my Triumph T/bird Sport forks. They have rebound/preload adjusters, so KM is sorting out a similarly ingenious way to facilitate the adjustment on these too. Fingers crossed.......tho I may just give them a call to make sure they don't undersize them to the cap diameter.
......great thread BTW......lovely bike

Hi Holeshot,
Don't worry too much about KM 'undersizing' your extensions.............
I don't think that's a mistake they will make again
I went to see Keith today, to see if we could remove a little material from the 'pinch point' of the top yoke, to make it grip the extensions. But after seeing how much needed removing, Keith was reluctant to 'chase' one mistake, with what could only be described as a 'compromise'.
He has offered to remake the extension's, by Monday!!
I don't think you can say fairer than that.
For Keith it seem's it's either 'spot on' or not at all.
I'm well chuffed so far. Just need to sort out some 'lock stops', then they will be of to the 'Blingmeister' Mikey, for some of that 'Mikey Magic'
