FACTORY CLUTCH HUB TOOL - anyone got one / a picture of one?

#1 PostAuthor: MaineKZ » Mon Feb 02, 2009 8:21 am

I gather there is/was a factory tool designed to hold the inner clutch hub whilst attempting to undo the hub nut which is forking tight ( as I learned to my cost  ).

Anyone got one of these? - don't need to borrow it (unless you're local of course) just want to see a pic if poss.

Alternatively, I've now acquired some spare steel clutch plates so thought I'd try to knock something together myself - anyone made one which works nicely? Again a pic would be great.

Taa

I've just made one myself last week, I had one which was made with only one plate but the nut was so tight it just distorted so I then made one using three plates which was probably over the top but it worked a treat, I made sure the plates were perfectly aligned and welded around the perimeter which I had to grind back a bit as there is limited room between the basket and drum then welded a length of flat bar about 30mm x 6mm to the side.

Hi Steve - and Steve

Steve - it'd be great if you could send the tool over when you're ready - I have PM'd you.

Steve C - it'd be great to see a pic or two of your home-made item. Think I'll go ahead and knock one up for future projects.

Thanks - Chris

Chris
When the tool reaches you keep it for a while,a man of your means will easily fabricate a pattern part its a pretty simple unit really.I won't need it till later this year when I strip down my 73 bike

Steve

It's a bit primitive but it worked, when the single plate one distorted I had to make this up in the pitch dark on the drive if I had a little more time I would have made a more prominent crank on the handle to let it sit deeper on the spline.
