For those of us who like a bit o comfort in our lives ....
... I have just booked into a different guest house.
After the Wheelgate Guest House didn't answer my phone messages, I did a Google search to send 'em an e-mail. During the search I picked up on a huge number of reviews of the place, none of which were complimentary
This reminded me of how we were all fleeced to a greater or lesser degree last year.
I have booked my self and CB into this place http://churchhillguesthouse.co.uk/ . It may be just as bad, but it certainly hasn't elicited the huge condemnation that the Wheelgate has. They also assure me they provide a really good breakfast
At time of writing they have 3 doubles, a couple of twins and a couple of single free and are very close to Squires (Mind you the Wheelgate told me they less than half a miles last year wasn't true!) But according to Google they are closer than the Wheelgate

As for you slagging this guest house off last year you had nothing but praise for it wnd think your opinions on here are a tad harsh you obviously spat your dummy out when you could not get through to them . I have spoke to lots of people that have stayed there all of which say they enjoyed it .

If memory serves me right I booked one type of room and then was given something lesser, but still charged just as much. BunnyZ also got 'had' in a minor financial way. The breakfast was OK but not remarkable. The rooms were very dated and the shower was not great. For me this was fine, but my other half was very much less than impressed, especially when she read these reviews and some others on other sites http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g186411-d210827-Reviews-Wheelgate_Guest_House-Leeds_West_Yorkshire_England.html
On a positive note they did give us a lift back to Squires on both days, which I doubt would be done anywhere else.
In conclusion I would say that as a place to rest a weary, drunken head it was fine, but knowing CB as I do, there is no way she would be happy.
I have no axe to grind and am trying to be accurate with what I report, and it may be that the standard encountered there is typical of guest houses in the area in that price bracket. I don't know but, I'm going to try another, on the basis that if I took CB there with prior knowledge she'd wear my tatters as earings

I trust she realises what a lucky girl she is
Personally I'd be very happy sleeping in a transit van, it's just the driving it to Yorkshire I wouldn't like
and I suspect the diesel would cost more than a B&B
Mind you I do remember picking the short straw at Nebworth one year and ending up sharing the cab of a transit with two others - not a great night, especially as I ended up with the drivers seat. Don't think I'd stand for that these days
In retrospect I'd prolly have done better to sleep underneath it
