I'm hoping someone can help with a question re wheel rebuilds. I've searched the forums and can't find the answer.
I'm rebuilding my Z1A(US model) and as part of that process have delaced both wheels to enable vapor cleaning of the hub and rechroming of the original rims. Being a bit of a pillock I didn't look to see whether there was any off set of the rim prior to delacing. Is there any offset to either front or rear whel ar are the rims laced centrally?
I'd be extremely greatful for any advice offers

I just merrily de-spoked my wheels with a bolt cutter - so you're not alone!
That said, it's not a disaster: the general rule is that if LH and RH spokes on a particular wheel are the same length - and I believe they are on the Zed range - then rim must be centred on hub spoke flanges.
Bit of accurate measuring and simple maths will give you the centre point and the appropriate distance between the outer edge of the rim and a convenient flat datum point on the hub (ie disc mounting surface or lip of brake drum).
Your wheel builder will have no problem in setting them up correctly

1GOM, I sent a rear rim (oFf a Z1) to the eletro-platers and unbeknown to me, they sent me back a chromed Z1000-A2 rear rim. Now here is where the difference is.
The rear wheel of the Z1, Z1A, Z1B and Z900-A4 are all the same... no offset and symmetrical rear hub. However, the Z1000 with its rear disk has unequal size rear hub flanges and to cater for this, they have one side the rim spoke-holes drilled at a sharper angle. There is also a small arrow indicating the direction on the "Takasago" rim.
It is impossible to respoke a Z1000 rim (rear disk) to a Z1 series, large rear hub.

Am in the process of restoring an original Z1-Z900 rear wheel, with a straight edge placed on the cush drive flange the rim off-set is around 20mm. I can send a pic of this if I could work out how to attach it to this message!
