Side stand query - another one

#1 PostAuthor: Robw » Tue Dec 02, 2008 7:41 pm

Hi, I in the process of fitting a side stand to my Z1000R. The one that came with it, has a double spring design, but the hole is elongated, so I was going to replace it. The one I just got from John Browse which he said was a common replacement does not fit, not enough clearance, to allow it to move around the lug.
I have looked on the Kawasaki website to see if I could get a part number, for the original one, however all the pictures look like a simple side stand similar to the one that John gave me.

Can anyone help with which model each stand comes from.

Hi Rob the second picture would be the same as my J1 stand if i were to modify it. By this i mean that the two horizontally opposed lugs at the top end constitute a separate bracket on mine which swivels independently. Has that one been welded together in this area????????? It looks from this angle as if it has.
The two plates which carry each of the two lugs should have a brace between them making them one whole piece. This piece detaches from the stand itself.

If the second stand is fitted and it doesnt look right it may be because the frames used to twist either side of the lug and the bracket on the frame can split away at this point

Cant help with the first one sorry.

Rob,that first stand isn't a J or R type stand.
The J and R side stands are different and it can be a nightmare trying to adapt 'em to fit, guess who's found out the hard way
I'll try and get the parts manual copied for the J1 and the R2 so you can see the differences, etc.
Another 5 minute job, that will take a lttle longer

The bottom one is like my Z1000R2 s/stand....
It has an OTT series of plates and brackets and springs....
Real overkill....
Just get the angle grinder on the b******d and lean it against the shop windows when out
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

The lug on that bottom one does look a bit home brewed.

Cheers for the info, just to confuse things more I ordered a side stand bolt for a Z1000R2 and it fits the stand in the first picture but is to small in diameter for the original stand. The bit in the original stand does move but I have not got around to popping it out, as I was going to replace it.I will contact John and swap the stand for the original type which has all the lugs and springs attached.
Five minute jobs don't you just love them
Rob
P.S I had a Triton which did not have a side stand, I spent most my time trying to find a suitable wall to prop it up against.

Hi, I have got a replacement stand for my R2, which is similar to the bottom picture. However I need the long spring (opposite to the spring in the picture), to finish it off. I have looked at every version of the Z1000/1100/750 on the Kwack website to try and match it.
No luck.
Does anybody have a part number or a picture of the side stand ( I have a workshop manual and that doesn't help either), so I can order one.

Here's hoping Rob

All sorted now, the complicated stand was only in certain markets, hence the reason why it did not show on the USA Kwak parts website.
It is listed on the fiche at my local Kwak dealer
