Cleaning carbon from piston crowns and combustion chambers
Hi All just took the head off my Z1B to renew valve guides and seals does anyone know a better way of cleaning carbon from pistons crowns and combustions chambers other than by just scraping with a soft wooden or plastic tool?

Caustic Alkaline Oven Cleaner and Ali!!!! You're living dangerously there.
That stuff will mess with your Ali's surface layer -could be storing up big trouble for the future.
You don't need a Alkaline Oven cleaner.Ask your wife for her oven cleaner foam.I'm working with it since years, and had never problems.

Red x and soft rotary brass wire brush worked well ,a smear of vaseline around edge of piston stopped any crap going down bores it holds onto carbon when you turn engine over and piston goes down easily wiped out then with clean rag.......
