What kind of paint did you use then?

Looks great!

Originally it was black. Then someone painted it red. Later it was painted gold, then green and finally black again. Took ages to get that off with paint stripper before blasting it to give a good key.

Primed it with an etching primer, then a regular grey primer and finally three coats of black and two layers of clear lacquer from Halfords.

I finally got around to putting in new wheel bearings and loosely fitting the rear wheel today.



Picture is a bit crap it was dark and my battery was running out.

I've also cut up a Triumph chain rubbing strip and will be glueing it to the swinging arm with Sikaflex for peace of mind.

The sticker will be gone by the time I've ridden to the MOT station.

The rear light is a truck light reversed so's the white light points up at the numberplate.

I'm still not too happy with the seat shape - I'm toying with the idea of making another with a much thinner passenger section and possibly a duck bill rear end But for now the bike will do me. Surprising how much weight I've saved by junking all the spoked wheels, standard swinging arm, air filter arrangment and a lot of under the seat stuff. Noticeably lighter just pushing it around the drive way.

The black mag wheels look good and the bars suit the feel of the bike.

Cheers lads. I'm pretty happy with the way the it turned out - although once you've started modding you always seem to be left with a feeling that you're never quite finished. Almost but not quite.

The exhaust is something of an oddity. It's made by a company I'd never heard of before called Powerflow. I had to look them up. As far as I can tell they specialise in making custom stainless zorsts for cars. I bought it off a guy that had a K1 chop he was breaking for spares - along with a load of other bits he had kicking around.

I have a spare tank and sidepanels finished in a dark rainbow blue that I may or may not use later on - it resembles engine oil in water. Also a spare frame with V5. He had them so I bought them. Who knows - I have some spoked wheels - maybe I'll build another bike from all the parts taken from the current bike.

The ally chainguard weighs a fraction of the steel chrome one it replaces. It's hewn out of a simple length of 2" X 2" angle. I stuck a spare tank badge on it to break up the flat lines a bit.

The bike sailed through its MOT on Saturday. Bike pulls really well with the current zorst and K@N setup. Has a brilliant Mad Max 1 wailing howl when you nail it from 40 and would easily, I'm sure, climb right off the clock to who knows what (my clock stops at 80 and has a further vague increment that I guess is 90 mph). So much so that a traffic cop car shot past me on the A34 at some speed and the passenger was prompted to wag a finger at me. I checked the speedo and was relieved to find an indicated 80 mph at the time. So probably only a few mph over 70 in reality if that - old Jap clocks having a tendency to award bragging rights the rider isn't really entitled to. Still, the acceleration obviously gave the impression I was giving it more welly than I was.

I used a dynojet-kit which took all the guessing out of it. I kept all the packets - I'll have a look in the garage tomorrow and see if they have any ratings on them.

NOTE! DynoJet jets are marked according to the diameter of the hole in the jet .. ie: DJ155 = 1.55mm and DJ160 = 1.60mm.

Mikuni and most other OEM equivalent jets are marked according to their flow rate, ie: 150 = a rating of 150 cc of fuel per minute.
