Thanks Paul, but it would help you added the date of the Saturday, the venue and the time members can attend.

I cannot understand the reactions I am getting to trying to find out about this.

I keep reading the club is about its members miniumum of rules, its only as good as the members make with participation etc When you try and take an interest you are met over sensitivity, defensive officials and obstruction.

I am not trying to be critical of how things are run or of the people who put in their own time and money in addition to their subs. just to see if I can help and be part of something I enjoy

Where is the common sense and adult behaviour we keep hearing about??

it seem's you are shouting the loudest about what an AGM should be
it has been so imformal up to now and that's the way it staying
how's that for adult behaviour and common sense
way too many Zeds

I notice people being defensive and I don`t understand why ?

Questions were asked because of a lack of clarity and that is all.

New members have no explanation of the workings of the club. It doesn`t mean that they want to do anything other than understand !

I go to dozens of AGM`s, Annual Meetings, Executive Meetings and Management Commitee Meetings throughout the year and I (and some others here) just want to understand the process of the club !

If, when I receive my membership details, these points are included as an explanation then I will understand !

Look guys, if you are going to call it an AGM then there is a prescribed process. If it is just a discussion of future plans for the club by the "Top Brass" then that is another !

You should have recieved a membership card and a magazine and a badge when you sent in your cheque. Has it been cashed? If so ring Jerry as your stuff must have got lost.

The club has tried to hold an AGM since the first one when only about three people came. It is usually held yearly, it is a meeting, and I would have thought general is covered by the fact that any member can attend. I would also imagine that while both BP and the Z1 club may have AGMs the complexity of the organisation would have some bearing on the complexity of the AGM, and as a non profit making club of 600 members I don't expect we need to have something on the same scale as a multi-national conglomerate, but we can still hold an annual meeting for any member that wants to come without contravenig some aspect of the Trade Descriptions Act. Especially since we are not a business. The club's process is to keep things as uncomplicated as possible, try to produce as close to four magazines as year as we can, provide some cheap spares and lend tools, and put on a couple of club stands at shows. And make enough money to keep going and little enough to not pay tax. If this gets too complicated we can just stop doing it. People get defensive because a small number of people do a lot of unpaid work to keep the club going, and to try and make it into a club worth being a member of. We don't do it expecting thanks, but it does make us a bit sensitive if we think (not always correctly) that we're being criticised.

I understand that perhaps some people can wonder about how stuff works, but if you have a magazine (which you should have - see above) there is a list of phone numbers of reps and so on, all you got to do is just ring your nearest rep, or ring Jerry, and ask. Or me. That's how I got involved about 15 years ago.

This is actually leads on to another point that refers to some people asking for a members only section on the site where members can discuss "members only" stuff. As think I said, or tried to say, to those who asked me about this face to face - it's too complicated to set up. If you need to talk to a member about stuff you don't want to get into on the site, talk to them on the phone or go round their house, or meet them at a Rally or show. That's what I do and it's worked well so far.

Thanks Mr Admin.

I think this matter has run its course as well, as all points have been explained thoroughly and with a great deal of clarity.

You guys that do more than the ordinary members are to be congratulated for all the efforts that you put in, and I appreciate you want to run a zero balance sheet by the end of the year.

New members, as has been said before, can try before they buy in respect of being active here before paying subs. I guess we all want to do our bit for a club we feel passionate about and just want to understand the workings.

Thanks again and more power to your elbows :)

I've just read this thread for the first time, and to sum up the AGM subject in the words of Al Murray, "Where would we be with no rules?........FRANCE! Where would we be with too many rules?........GERMANY! As Chris said earlier, we try to keep things as simple as possible, making just enough to keep going, and try to have a good time while doing it.
On the subject of finances, when people ask about club accounts, it strikes somewhat of a historical nerve which cannot be explained on a public accessed domain, however, I can assure everyone that since I have been loosely in control of the clubs finance, we've made money, none has been lost or made to disappear, and all summary year accounts have been submitted annualy for independant approval and published in the club magazine. If anyone is worried about the integrity of the club, I would readily supply a paid up member a copy of any accounts asked for. As I said earlier, for certain reasons I make SURE that the club's finances are transparent.

Met up with Barry (Kent Rep) among others today, and he took the time to explain things to me, the history etc and how some of the online charcters operate.

I now understand and am enlightened. Thanks to all for helping to explain things Especially hobba, barry & jerry.

To finish I am interested in doing whatever I can to help if needed.
I take the point about picking up the phone....duh should have thought of that one.....

Great comments Jerry........

Its all about FUN......

I really cannot imagin anyone SERIOUSLY questioning the club finances

If its taken on an idividual basis... I for one do not have any qualms about parting with the equivalent of a few 'gallons of petrol' to help maintain & support the Z1OC

Keep up the good work - one and all :P
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
