Can anyone tell me if the Z1b ever came original with a black engine ( I think not )

Paul, agree with John R, no black engines for the Z1B, however, you could have been looking at a Z2-750 that came out with the Z1B paint job and this did have a black engine. (Ref Dave Marsden's Original Kawasaki page 91)
