Chain oil tank

#1 PostAuthor: gbh » Fri Aug 29, 2008 1:13 pm

Does anyone know of a good way to clean a plastic chain oil tank?
Any suggestions regarding chemicals to use or advice on what not to use would be appreciated.

ultrasonic bath with standard detergent is a good start. Look in ebay/google for stronger detergents. I am using some great stuff from Ireland for carbs a the mo, cleaned my srewdrivers a peach when I decided to drop them in to see what happened!

paraffin will dissolve girmed up oil, petrol will too but will attack some plastics.

so fill tank with paraffin, chuck in a few ball bearings and shake away - the ball bearings will dislodge stuff stuck to the sides where a brush cannot reach.

Sounds like some good advice. I'll give both methods a try and see how they go. Cheers.

George...in the past, I have used solvol on chain oil tanks to remove grime and as it's slightly abrasive, it does have the effect of bringing back some of the whiteness as well. I wouldn't say they looked as good as new afterwards, but there was a big improvement. Usually best to give it 2 or 3 goes for best results.
Cheers, Steve
