Rich, started with 17.5 pilots... went to 32.5 :?? now at 25's :|

The compression is just too low..... Tonite I warmed the engine well....
then squirted some GTX in the plug holes & the compression reading went up about 20 psi...
#1,2,& 3 cylinders @ 120/125 and # 4 @ 105
Steve Romeo reckons all it'll need is rings (fingers crossed) so will strip it down in the next few weeks & have a good look....
Will check valve clearances before taking top end off as its got under-bucket shims :!:
I'll be chuffed if it only needs rings & a hone
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Looks a nice bike that Piggy, and I would think that Mr Debben and Mr Bateman had half a clue what they were doing all those years ago !

Buy the way, they are my favorite bickys but I would prefer the origional rather than the orange.

Been out in the garage/garden with the bike.... decided to have a look at the barrels & bits...

Took Dyna coils off, for more room... Cam cover off all sweet & dandy

Image

Good... Megacycle cams & adjustable srpockets..... Best do clearances whilst at this stage... coz they are under bucket doofers....

Ranged between 8 thou and 1 thou  so needs some attention, hopefully just shim swapping :??

Notes & photo's of cams as they could be a pig to reset without data  All seems OK, no bad scores/marks....

Head off OK..... gasket not stuck too bad... :| Hmmmmmmmmmm :|

That head gasket look a standard size... check and it is  Quick measure of bore... 72 and a bit mm :!: Should be 78 for a 1260cc
Barrels off next....... Bores look clean & tidy, no ridges or marks... still see honing pattern :??

Image

The cases don't look particualrly "bored out" Measured the round bit that the barrels sit in.... 84 mm diameter :?? Is this standard :?:

SO, this bike was not what is was sold as

Carbs were 34 RFS, not 38's.... Pistons only 72mm not 78mm

Anyone know what the casing mouth size is std :?: :?: :?: before I contact seller

Hi Piggy.

I can tell you for absoloute sure that 72 mm bore is 1075. as I have a set of barrels on my desk at the moment that have been bored for a wiseco 1075 kit by SEP engineering and they are 72mm.

The head & bottom end seem to be as they should be :|

Tried contacting BOB LEIPER - vendor - but no response... surprise surprise

Tracked down a new 75mm Wiseco kit for £300... so just need the 1089 barrels...... Paully :?:

Right then...

I have sorted out the barrels & pistons..... a bit OTT actually....

Got some nice new Wiseco's 1170 / 75mm (good deal & service from Gremlin Racing) and checked them out at work...

Image

They all weighed out at 314.5g (piston & gudgeon pin) and look so pretty :P kit comes with base & head gasket set too  Just need to suss out rebore :??

I have some 1089 barrels now.... I also have another set of 1170 & barrels ready to roll from Romeo  Gonna sort out best lot & shift the rest......... OFFERS :?:

Been busy on eBay too......

Image

These are early gixxer 11 USD forks so a good 1" longer than modern stuff  The billet yokes have kwik release inserts and all I need to do is fit a Z1000 stem...... Like this one that I squished out in the concrete cube crusher today

Image

Anuvver eBay buy...........

Update...

The fork purchase fell thru...... Geezer said the bottom collar split when he got his stem removed, and he's gonna get anuvver one made up :|
I think he has actually pulled out of the sale....
He removed them from eBay for a private deal with me, so no come back.... Sh*t happens

Been in the garage this weekend and now got the engine out :P
The lower front mounting bolt was a b*****d to remove
Took a good 1/2 hour, but it finally circum to my big hammer :??

Image

I have taken my std 1089cc barrels to be rebored & they should be done in a few days....

Image

I'm gonna roughly reassemble the engine & casings & seal all the 'gaps & holes' & get the engine blasted......

Then its a complete strip down... for new cam chain, check internals... & see if crank is actually welded :|
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
